Private photos from Expo 64

50 years ago today, the Swiss National Exhibition, the Expo 64 opened its doors in Lausanne. Here's some unfiltered view via a pile of private photos I recently found on the flea market. Their original size is 6.5x6.5 cm, but I scanned them in 600 dpi, so you can zoom in. I might add some information about the pavillions and artworks later, but so far, please make your own stories.

UPDATE: I wrote a text based on these photos for The Modernist magazine. Here's a slightly revised online version.

More posts on this seminal exhibition to come. Please check out my previous posts on Expo 64:
Pics from the construction and the buildings (from the construction foremen magazine; the images from the Swiss army's "concrete hedgehog" are probably the most tumblred pics from my blog).
Rolf Liebermann's composition for 156 office machines.

At the Maison d'Ailleurs

The Maison d'Ailleurs, the Museum of science fiction, utopia and extraordinary voyages in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland is based on the collection of Pierre Versins, who donated his tens of thousands of science fiction books, comic books and many other sci-fi related documents to the city in the 1970s. Central parts of the collection are the work of Jules Verne, French series of Sci-Fi books, but also American pulp novels.
I had the pleasure to accompany my friend Dave Tompkins on a research mission to their book collection. We had very little time, but I'm glad I sneaked away from the study desk to take some pics of amazing covers.

Rote Reihe: Nils Hansen

"Rote Reihe" was a series of music education books published by Universal Edition from Vienna. Approx. 80 books were published in this series in the 70s and 80s, many with scores and exercices on experimental music for children. Some of the books came with 7" records. Here's side B from Nils Hansen's "Kreativität im Musikunterricht" (creativity in the music class), played by 5th graders (track 1) and 12th graders (tracks 2 and 3).
